Wedgewood Houston, also known as We-Ho or So-Ho - is in the midst transforming from an industrial pocket into a thriving arts community. Situated conveniently close to Downtown Nashville, The Gulch, 12th South, Belmont and the interstate, this arts community developed, as many do, from the coupled combinations of four, fortuitous factors: proximity to a teeming metropolis, a bounty of affordable housing, mixed-use, industrial warehouses that are easily transformed into studio space and its tucked-in, inclusive community vibe. Throw into the mix a decent bar, a dozen or so acclaimed art galleries and a coffee shop and just sit back and watch the inflow of bohemia.

With a railway line that runs through the neighborhood creating isolated traffic disturbances at odd hours, this part of town will be found most desirable to those who seek character and an element of surprise in their urban life. Though, in an area that is becoming more and more busy by the week, these untimely barricades can be bothersome. Thankfully there are several ways to maneuver around the tracks with back roads into the city including Chestnut Street to the North, Craighead Street to the South, 8th Ave on the other side of I-65 to the west, and Nolensville Pike to the East.

Within this neighborhood you’ll find The Tennessee State Fairgrounds, The Nashville Speedway and Houston Station event space which hosts semi-regular, mid-sized, local events that bring together the whole community with food trucks, vendors, and dj’s. Also within the industrial landscape are a mix of housing options - old cottages to stunning new construction, along with art galleries, eateries, cafes, breweries, a bakery and the famous dive bar in a double wide - Santa’s Pub which features nightly karaoke and $2 beer beer specials.
The Historic Merritt Mansion, built in the late 1800s  is located at 441 Humphreys Street. Word is that the band, Kings of Leon purchased the Mission Style mansion for a cool $1.3 Million back in February of 2015.

If Wedgewood Houston were an oil painting it would retail among other avant-garde centerpieces as a smattering of mixed medium grunge with a refined, artistic aesthetic. This is Nashville’s home for attitude and funky good times.
