Wedgewood Houston, also known as We-Ho or So-Ho - is in the midst transforming from an industrial pocket into a thriving arts community. Situated conveniently close to Downtown Nashville, The Gulch, 12th South, Belmont and the interstate, this arts community developed, as many do, from the coupled combinations of four, fortuitous factors: proximity to a teeming metropolis, a bounty of affordable housing, mixed-use, industrial warehouses that are easily transformed into studio space and its tucked-in, inclusive community vibe.

If you drive around The Nations neighborhood enough, you’ll eventually but pass by the iconic ‘Est. 1913 The Nations’ retro sign off 51st Avenue. This sign is the remnants of a long closed business and as far as anyone knows, the only namesake of this modernizing community. For years this mixed residential / industrial area along the western rail lines, was referred to simply as West Nashville.

Like the classic Main Streets of yesteryear, 12th Avenue South is aglow with prosperity and neighborly charm. Pedestrian-friendly streets are adorned with sidewalk chalk, balloons, shimmering lights and ice cream splatters. As if the comforts of the iconic 1950’s were modernized to taste, the 12 South neighborhood reflects the peaceful opulence and warmth of simpler times.

Tucked in between Historic Music Row and Downtown, The Gulch is a convenient and exciting place for young professionals to live, work and play. Several condominium buildings silhouette the skyline along the perimeter of this progressive commercial district, allowing residents the ease of living in a mixed-use community.
